If you’ve ever seen the Boise Highlanders march out, you’ve probably noticed our signature look. We aren't just wearing any random plaid we found off the shelf; we proudly rock the Davidson Tartan.

What Is the Davidson Tartan?
Originating from Clan Davidson (or Clan Dhai back in the day), this classic Scottish pattern is a stunning mix of rich greens, deep blues, solid black checks, and sharp red pinstripes. The Davidsons weren't just hanging out in the Scottish Highlands looking fashionable, they were right in the thick of medieval Highland drama. Clan Davidson originally hailed from the Spey River valley, nestled right between the Cairngorm and Monadhliath mountains.
Why Do the Boise Highlanders Wear this Tartan?
The truth? I’m not 100% sure why we picked it. I was once told it was because it was on sale at the time. Regardless, when we are performing everywhere from local parades, formal Scottish festivals, and Humping Hanna’s on St. Patty’s Day, our uniform needs to look sharp and hide the occasional spilled Guinness.
So the next time you hear the pipes echoing through Boise, look for the band rocking that authentic Scottish Clan Davidson tartan. Come say hi, ask about our gear, and remember: it’s not plaid, it’s tartan!
